When it comes to urgent care services, there is no margin for error and that extends to filling rotas and ensuring the right clinical talent is available. When a rota is scoped out and agreed, last-minute cancellations can significantly impact patient care. With remote triage, last-minute cancellations, and face-to-face consultations to cover, this urgent care provider was experiencing bottlenecks in trying to source the right quality and quantity of clinical professionals to fill their rotas.
Serving over six million patients, this provider needed extra support to onboard. Potential costs posed by their limited internal resources to process and interview clinicians, meant they needed extra support to onboard qualified, reliable clinicians in a timely and efficient way.
Having an established relationship with Celsus Group since 2008, and a PSL Partnership since 2019, this urgent care provider turned to us.
The solution

We introduced additional clinical skill sets to cover their rotas and meet the requirement of their patients in a cost-effective and timely manner. With a rigorous compliance and vetting process in place, we sourced reliable clinicians and when a cancellation did occur, were able to provide a replacement.
Led by our Chief Nurse, Lorraine Gray, we streamlined their workforce provision by:
- Managing the interview, compliance, and onboarding process
- Suggested additional skill mixes to support the clinical teams
- Offering partnership rates within their budget
- Managing cancellations and improving fill rates
- Providing monthly review meetings to improve services
The outcome
Through our ongoing support and clinical insight, this urgent care provider was able to streamline their workforce provision, enabling them to meet an increase in demand and volume whilst managing costs. In addition, there was a reduction in waiting times and cost savings due to skill mix support which helped to improve patient satisfaction.
During the COVID crisis, 5,000 additional patients were triaged and supported each week across multiple locations. We also provided laptops to clinicians in order to meeting the increase in demand during this time. Through our adaptability, we were able to scale up our sourcing to meet their increased demand, placing almost 400 clinicians in 2021 including GPs, ANPs, ECPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Prescribers, Paramedics and Pharmacists.
